Cisco (Cape Town Iron and Steel Works (Pty) Ltd, founded in Kuilsrivier, Cape Town by Downing and Favel (previously known as MacWillaw) after gaining access to 13 000mt/a of the Western Cape “scrap pool”. Old Mutual and other shareholders take ownership and begin the upgrade of the plant.
1973
Cisco becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of ISCOR and produces 50 000mt/a of reinforcing bar.
1982
Cisco installs a new meltshop with the capacity for 100 000mt/a of billet.
1989
Following further upgrades, Cisco produces 160 000mt/a of billet and re-rolls 66 000mt/a of reinforcing bar.
1995
Cisco is acquired by a joint venture between Iscor and Reinforcing Steel Contractors (RSH).
1995
Cisco is Acquired by Murray and Roberts Steel (Pty) Ltd.
2012
Cisco is acquired by a wholly-owned subsidiary of DHT Africa
